Sunrisers Hyderabad is the most balanced team but their balance becomes disbalance due to the absence of David Warner in IPL 2018. David Warner as the batsman and as a captain he will be missed by Hyderabad.
Now Kane Williamson is the new captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Williamson said that he is looking forward to playing with a talented group of players. “I’ve accepted the role to stand in as captain for this season. It’s an exciting opportunity with a talented group of players. I look forward to the challenge ahead,” he added.
Williamson has been playing for the SRH since 2015. However, he has found it tough to cement his position in the playing XI, mostly because of the rule that allows franchisees to play only four overseas players. In IPL 2017, the New Zealand skipper had scored 256 runs for the franchise at an average of 42.66 in 7 matches.
We have two different opinions regarding best possible playing 11 so we have expressed us both the views.
Well SRH is one and only team in IPL 2018 which have “Headache of Plenty” for every possible role.
For All Rounders Role, they Have
- Chris Jordan – Who’s more of Bowling all-rounder than the Batting all-rounder
- Carlos Brathwaite – He’s Batting All-rounder than Bowling All-rounder
- Shakib ul Hassan – I think he is a well rounded all-rounder
- Mohammed Nabi – Many have highly rated him as an all-rounder but I haven’t seen him play much so I can’t write off
- Deepak Hooda – Surprisingly a hard-hitting batsman who has the ability to finish the game bat and roll his arms to give couple overs is a rare commodity in India. And he is also agile in field.*
- Yusuf Pathan- Who can forget his carnage in previous IPL edition.
*These words belongs to Former Indian Cricketer Mr. Akash Chopra
Among these six players you can pick 2~3 that too depends much on overall team composition.
Similarly, they do have to toss up in their Fast bowling quota. They do have many Indian contenders like
- Siddarth Kaul
- Sandeep Sharma
- Basil Tambi
- Khaleel Ahmed
- T Natarajan
Among these five only 1~2 will bowl along side Bhuvaneswar who gonna be the leader of the pack.
So considering all these My probable playing XI would be
- Kane Williamson
- Shikhar Dhawan
- Manish Pandey
- Deepak Hooda
- Shakib Al Hasan
- Wriddhiman Saha
- Chris Jordan
- Yusuf Pathan/Sandeep Sharma
- Rashid Khan
- Bhuvneshwar Kumar
- Siddarth Kaul / Basil Tambi
The reason for Yusuf Pathan & Sandeep Sharma toss up is if SRH management decides to go with extra pacer due to pitch condition then the possible place will be Yusuf Pathan as he got to play at lower down the order to accommodate others.Kane Williamson because SRH has good Indian middle order batting unit. So I side with pace bowling all-rounder like Jordan.
Wriddhiman Saha (wk)
The above-mentioned players will be in almost all the matches Because they are the core of the team. So it leaves the vacant 3 gaps to be filled with the rest of the available players. Also, it allows 2 overseas spots too.
Player 1: With Rashid being the only spinner in the side, there is a need for another spinner to aid who should also bat well, especially at lower order with reliable hitting too. Available options are Shakib Al Hasan, Mohammad Nabi, Bipul Sharma, Deepak Hooda.
Among them, Shakib Al Hasan is the most reliable option who can provide decent 4 overs and can fit in the team as a bowler one. Rest of the options are not good as allrounders. So Shakib Al Hasan occupies one of the spot in Playing XI as a allrounder at 6–7 , it also fills one of the overseas spot
Player 2 :With the already having good number of spinning options in Playing XI with Rashid Khan, Shakib Al Hasan ,Yusuf Pathan who all can fill at least 9–10 overs with ease , they will fit one fast bowler to back the rest of attack . The available options are Chris Jordan ,Basil Thampi , T Natarajan , Syed Khaleel Ahmed , Siddarth Kaul , Carlos Brathwaite . Here comes the selection issues for the team .
The former was a good death bowler and can bowl up to 140 at some times , but he occupies overseas spot . Adding to that already team has two of the best pacers of this tournament Bhuvaneswar Kumar , Sandeep Sharma who can bowl decently at powerplay and death overs very well . So adding Jordan won’t be of much use , with the dusty pitch of Hyderabad taken in to consideration . They might go for Indian pacer for that role . Mostly it would be Basil Thampi / Siddarth Kaul because the latter was successful in last season and former can bowl over 140 consistently . One of them will take up pacer role
Player 3 :Now only one spot is left , which can be filled with an Indian or overseas .With already bowing being bulked up with good options like Bhuvaneswar, Sandeep, Rashid, Shakib Al Hasan all of them can give decent 16 overs adding to decent overs from Thampi and Pathan for remaining four overs, Hyderabad might tempt to go with a pure batsman or an allrounder
The options available are Braithwaite, Mohammad Nabi , Deepak Hooda , Chris Jordan , Sachin baby,Tanmay Agarwal.
Among them, Williamson, Sachin, Tanmay are a pure batsman. But all of them are not known for big hitting, so adding them won’t be of much use.
Jordan, as expected, was more of a bowler and his hitting is not that reliable. That leaves us with Carlos Brathwaite, Mohammad Nabi, Deepak Hooda.
Deepak Hooda though being a hitter was not consistent from past 2 seasons and with the luxury of filling the role with an overseas player, he won’t be of much use.
Mohammad Nabi was a reliable bowler and can tonk big hits, but his batting took sidelines from past few months which limits his big hitting processes in dusty Indian pitches. Also with too many spin options, he won’t add much weight to the team.
Carlos Brathwaite is the last option. The big-hitting all-rounder is capable of scoring quick runs with towering sixes, can pick wickets. He is a live wire in the field too. We can say he can play the role of cutting even better.
He can fit decently at 7 and can be promoted to higher when there is a need for quick runs at the end or to up the ante while chasing big totals. Especially his presence at 7–8 allows top order to play freely.
Sunrisers Hyderabad will be choosing there best playing 11 according to the situation and condition of the pitch and opponent team.
