New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner has been ruled out for nine months due to a knee injury.
Santner will miss Test series against England which is scheduled later this month and would not be playing this IPL.
He needs to undergo a surgery which will keep him out of action for six to nine months, the team confirmed on Wednesday.
The 26-year old felt discomfort during the limited overs matches against England and a scan revealed a bone defect. Further scans showed that the injury has worsened a Santner would need a surgery.
If you look at CSK squad, they have
Opening: Vijay, Watson, Billings
Middle-order: Raina, Rayudu, Dhoni, Jadhav, Duplessis
Lower-order: Jadeja, Bravo, Harbhajan, Karn Sharma
Spin: Harbhajan, Karn Sharma, Tahir
Pace: wood, Thakur, Nigdi
Pace allrounder: Watson, Bravo
Spin allrounder: Jadeja
Part timer: Jadhav, Raina
Keeper: Dhoni, Billings
Death overs: bravo, Watson
If you observe the whole, we can say almost every element is covered for them. If there is an element which is lagging or missing, it’s their pace bowling. I feel they should pick a pace bowler.
The notable unsold pacers are :
- Matt Henry
- Suranga lakmal
- Jhye Richardson
- Kesrick Williams
Morkel though a good bowler, he is out of limited overs game for a long time and he is nursing injuries and he is 34.
Awana, Mithun, Aaron though being good additions but they are more of supporting bowlers mostly.
Jhye Richardson, Kenrick though Regular t20 specialists they lack experience on Indian conditions
Hilfenhaus, lakmal are of specialist pacers and aware of subcontinent conditions. With the current scenario of Lankans in Chennai, it is not advisable to have him in CSK. The former was a good one but he will turn 35 by this March. So he might not be a long-term prospect for the team.
Wiley, Cooper, Hastings were more of a bowling all-rounder of type Bravo. He bowls around 130– 140. With the presence of Watson, bravo in the team and the lack of support for swing bowlers in the Chinnaswamy pitch, they won’t add much benefit to the team.
Matt Henry was a quality bowler and was picked by CSK in past too, but he didn’t get enough games as a bowler to prove his worth. Also, he has not played limited-overs international game a lot of time back
Liam Plunkett, the English bowler is known for bowling at high pace and extracting extra bounce with his height. He is a decent batsman too. He plays for English limited overs team too. So he would be a great addition to CSK.
Among them, mills is an injury prone bowler, but he is a very effective one with his deceptive slow balls and fiery pace.
I feel Liam Plunkett should be picked as the first option who is more of a hit the deck hard kind of bowler which the CSK didn’t have now. His extra pace can be an X-factor for the team.
If not then they should go with mills who with his left arm angle might trouble the batsman along with slow balls and pacy deliveries .
