Why is Mumbai Indians losing matches in IPL 2018?

Actually, I am also searching for the same answer. Let me first make it clear that MI is my favorite team in the IPL. As a MI fan, I am very disappointed with their performance. But if I analyze them there is no such single particular reason for their bad performances.
It is just that if batsmen play well then bowling doesn’t click and if bowlers do well, batsmen fell.
The team that MI fielded for most of the game is their best XI at least on paper.
Now as we are in search for the reason of MI’s failure then it is better we look first into their squad.

There are some changes in the above squad. They are as under :
Pat Cummins and Jason Behrendorff miss out due to injury and Adam Milne and Mitchell McClenaghan are replaced in their position.
Actually one of the reasons for MI’s failure could be that Pat Cummins is missing out. His pace could have proved to be X-factor but he is no more in this year’s IPL.

Let me just rewrite the last match playing XI –
Suryakumar Yadav
Evin Lewis
Ishan Kishan
Rohit Sharma
Hardik Pandya
Krunal Pandya
Kieron Pollard
Mitchell McClenaghan
Mayank Markande
Jasprit Bumrah
Mustafizur Rahman

On paper, we look at this side and this side is ready to take on any side. It just all things are coming together.
Honestly let me tell you I don’t like to make any changes to this XI but MI has to some tough calls. So let me think of some changes, in my opinion, MI should make. The first l write my revised XI then I would give justification for changes.
Revised XI :
Rohit Sharma
Evin Lewis
Suryakumar Yadav
Ishan Kishan
Krunal Pandya
Hardik Pandya
Ben Cutting
Mitchell McClenaghan
Mayank Markande
Jasprit Bumrah
Mustafizur Rahman

My thoughts on the changes:
1. ‌Rohit to open and Surya in middle
In my opinion, Rohit Sharma should open the innings because if any player opens for his country then he has to be the best opener in that country. Also, there is one more reason is that Evin Lewis has a nack of getting off to a flier start which would help Rohit to settle down a bit. And if Rohit settles in the middle then…… You know what happens!
Surya is middle order batsman any way and he can also bat in the 5th gear from ball one. So he could play in the middle order much faster than Rohit plays. So he should be in the middle order.

2‌.Cutting in place of Pollard
This is the one of the toughest decision MI has to take. Pollard has not been in good form. He has removed as captain of Barbados Tridents in CPL. Also, he does not provide you the overs so you have play him as a pure batsman this days. If Cutting comes in place of Pollard then Mumbai pitch also could help him a bit and he can provide you a over or two.
